I've been pulling my energies out of Buffy fandom for a while as I'm slowly getting involved in activism instead. (I'm also trying to get back to my non-fanfic fiction.) I'm still reading LJ and want to keep in touch with everyone but I've very nearly stopped reading fic, even by authors whose work I much admire. I'm sorry. No doubt I'll come back and binge-read when I must.

I started watching Buffy because I just wanted to see the forces of darkness trounced every week as I slogged my way through my studies, especially when my SO fell steadily more ill and then went through (successful) treatment. But I have a little bit of time and energy now that I want to put in another direction.

It looks like it's going to take days to sort out Ohio.

Will miss you in the fandom, and hope you'll come back and visit sometimes, before it dies away altogether.

It's not going to die away altogether; Blake's 7 fic is still being written, Dr Who fic... I'm sure there are better examples too.

I'll be around but I won't be keeping up with stuff the way I used to.

Getting back to fiction of the non-fandom variety is a good thing. Make no apologies for that...or your interest in activism.

I totally understand. I'll shortly have to pull away, too, though the reasons are not to pursue anything as ideal as activism - for which I applaud you.

I've been meaning to get into activism for years, but I kept telling myself I'd do it after I finished my studies. Now that I have the PhD, it's timee to get a move on although I don't really know yet how best to approach it. Right now I'm just turning up at various meetings, hoping to find a group to which I can usefully contribute.

(BTW, I'm still thinking about setting up those webpages of your recs. The website mistress is ill currently but I really don't think it will be an issue. I can just seize the html from your LJ pages and tidy it up for the site or simply link to your LJ. Or if you'd prefer to do the formatting yourself, please let me know.)
