Surprise

There's a story about Drusilla that I've been working on now for six and a half years, on and off. I've surprised myself recently by finally finishing a draft. I'll probably need another week or two to do fact-checking and finish a second draft, but after that I would welcome a couple of betas. I guess the ideal beta readers would travel widely in Europe and/or have a good knowledge of 1840s England. (I'm assuming a knowledge of Buffy, Angel and grammar.)

Any volunteers? It's about 10 000 words. Speed is obviously not of the essence for this one.

Recs

I'm reading fanfic again after a long hiatus. Here's some recs. Maybe everyone's read these already.

Buffyverse Both very short.
Oh, Little Sister by carlyinrome. Faith is called first and Buffy follows.
In This Garden, Verdant and Bright by snowpuppies. Dana and Bethany in an afterlife.

X-Men: First Class Two Charles/Erik stories.
Enigma by Yahtzee. A superb and satisfying dramatic fic. Magneto turns back the clock.
Good Boys by zamwessell. The best of the NC17 fics I've read so far. Deeply pornographic, sometimes OOC but frequently hilarious.

And if anyone can think of a better title for it than "Ethan Rayne Versus America", I'd be very grateful. It was the working title for the two years I had the story in my head.

This completes the trilogy about Rupert Giles and Ethan Rayne, which includes Halfway There (novella) and In the Morning of the Magicians (novel), which can be found via LJ tags or my website). My thanks to shapinglight and peasant_ for their continued support and editorial comments, some of which I'm still to apply to Magicians. All errors remain my own.

SUMMARY: Ethan underground: his time with the Initiative.
SPOILERS: Definitely A New Man, arguably New Moon Rising. Nothing beyond Season Four, and guaranteed free of spoilers from the comics, as I haven't read them.
NOTE: Probably best read after Halfway There, although it precedes it chronologically.
RATING: PG.
LENGTH: 3 800 words.
WRITTEN: 30 December 2011 to 9 January 2012.

The complete novel is now available as a single webpage at: http://indri.notanothersite.com/morning.html (536 KB). I recommend reading Halfway There first.

Thanks to everyone who's been reading, especially those who have commented on the serialised posts. My thanks particularly to [livejournal.com profile] shapinglight for recommending the work to others and for making valuable editorial comments. I am grateful for constructive criticism.

What will I do with my spare hours now?

There will now be a short hiatus, as I will be away from my computer for a few days. I may not be able to post again until Monday.
