New fic

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat for the beta, [livejournal.com profile] azdak for the free time and [livejournal.com profile] deborahmm for her kindness.

Unfortunately, it's NC17 Sparmony. No, I have no idea what possessed me. There are worse canon pairings, but not many.

And this time, I'll check the link once I've posted.

Shagging Harmony Kendall (NC17)
Spoilers to You're Welcome.

OK, it's a bad pairing. It's good writing, though.

It's not like you're writing mpreg or vpreg or anything that sordid.

[identity profile] 2am-optimism.livejournal.com 2004-04-26 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm... ::raises hand::

vpreg?

[identity profile] ludditerobot.livejournal.com 2004-04-26 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Vampire Pregnancy. AKA S3 Angel, sordid, degrading season that was.

Although Cordy/Groo was the worst of it.... B)

Thanks for clearing that up - thought I had most of the fandom acronyms down but that one was new to me :)

Yeah - with you on the whole Groo thing! ::shivers::

Ah, just give in, you know you want to ;-)

teamwork killer whales and synthetic roses

Seriously loved this line.

It needs to be an icon, or a fic title, or a movement or something :)

Really enjoyed everything about that story - Harmony's characterisation comes across as absolutely spot on.

[identity profile] st_salieri.livejournal.com 2004-04-26 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. Loved the last paragraph. This felt very real and in character for both of them.

Good stuff. Loved the yearbook.

[identity profile] stumbelina.livejournal.com 2004-04-26 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That was lovely. Just the right mix of the awkward, the convenient and the poignant. The characterisation is spot on, and it is one of the best takes on this-season-Spike's view of Buffy that I have read.

I followed the link from [livejournal.com profile] herself_nyc's LJ.

Honestly, that is really a great story. I don't know what possessed you either, but if does again, I'd be happy to read more.

The random conversation - "Why unicorns?". The observations - He sometimes forgets that Harm is pretty. The way the mark the yearbook. Very much Spike and Harmony.

I actually think Sparmony can be interesting...::blushes:: And this is very real and in character, those little bits of their lives together convey so much.

"And because no-one believes in them either."

gah. that's really amazing, indri.

But how was I to know that someone that geeky would ever have something I want?" She flops onto her back, inconsolable.

"Well then," Spike says, finding his hand empty again, "you'll just have to suffer for your sins."

oh, i just gasped in wonder at this bit, its so perfect and apt and ironic and lovely. i can take this version of these vampires when i have abandoned even canon interpretation of them.

Be your best". Spike thinks he's been and done that and maybe it's time to move on

HEE. yes yes yes! so cool.

He takes the black pen and marks two little crosses under her name

sniff. and also, grin, because that's what he'd do, for sure, even though i wouldnt have thought of it till i read it.

This is always the worst part for him, the first time he sinks into clammy, wet flesh.

ok, this was the only bit that made me wonder... after a century and a half of shagging dru (and angel and darla) wouldn't he be used to it? i mean, given the number of happy vampire lovers we've seen in canon, don't you think they like shagging each other, even if they also enjoy the occasional warm-blooded bit on the side? actually, we haven't seen much explicit vamp/human sexuality, since the eating has always been used as a metaphor... maybe vamps by and large don't like shagging their food. maybe thats why they thought spike and angel were sick freaks to want to sleep with a warm blooded human slayer. hee. sorry, my thought process clearly is on overdrive today.

lovely fic. thanks for writing it!

Er, what did I do?

Have the story saved to my hard drive and will read it today. I didn't like the Sparmony on the show, but that was partly because JM played it so harsh. I just loathed Spike being shown as so insensitive towards the one woman he really did treat very badly. I'm sure I'll love the story, though. That scene needs redeeming somehow.

Read the story through - loved it. Hope you got my feedback email.

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2004-04-27 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee - this is brilliant. In character and totally unsentimental (which makes the Spike-thinking-of-Buffy bits genuinely touching, instead of making me cringe). I feel proud to have facilitated the creation of such a fine piece of writing :-) (I'm sure I'm missing a reference, though? - that title has to be a reference to something, and maybe the structure as well, but I'm so culturally illiterate I can't figure it out for myself).

You know, it sounds daft, but I only really 'got' how Harmony felt about Spike when I saw a music vid, 'Jolene', with Harmony as the sad wife and Buffy as Jolene - funny and kind of touching and it made me realise that she's not just annoying (though she is annoying), she really does love him. And then when she told Wes that he should consider himself lucky because the girl of his dreams loved him - aw! But I still think Spike would be crazy to give her any reason at all to have the slightest hope that she could get him back, so I appreciate his robustly exploitative attitude here.

There's no need to write back - I know you're being inundated with (much deserved) feedback, and I'm not going to be on-line for more than a couple of minutes over the next few days anyway, but I wanted you to know how much I'd enjoyed the story.

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2004-05-08 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
Did you find the 'Jolene' vid? Because it's conveniently just been re-recced on TWoP - it's here

I actually missed this and just caught it on allaboutspike. Ah! This is so original and funny and heartrending and I'm so glad it didn't pass me by. Thanks for another wonderful read.

[identity profile] amerella.livejournal.com 2004-05-03 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
And thanks in return for "And Then She Died Again" which was both lyrical and moving.

This is a lot of thank-yous, but thanks! I'm very glad you enjoyed it. ^_^

This is quite wonderful, covering a gamut of emotions. Absolutely loved this.

With age comes wisdom (er, sometimes)

[identity profile] claudia-yvr.livejournal.com 2004-05-04 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad! I felt a bit odd admitting that I was residing under that same roof, but it's been an interesting experience and one that I'm appreciating more and more. This is actually pretty much the first time since my teens that we've even lived in the same city, so it's been an unique opportunity to get to know each other better.

You know, I've discovered one of the nice things about being in my 30s is letting go of some of these (often ridiculous) notions of what I should have done when. And on that note, good luck with the driving lessons :-)

[identity profile] debxena.livejournal.com 2004-04-28 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That was really bittersweet. I'm not sure if I liked it or not ... but it was certainly well written.

There's not much room to move, but they're limber. - That always makes me think of Sid from The Puppet Show: "limberrrrrrr". *shudder*

The ending was lovely - nice to know that the dead are remembered, even if it is by vampires.

[identity profile] onetwomany.livejournal.com 2004-05-01 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
That was just fantastic m'dear! Quite an emotional rollercoaster packed into so few words. Bittersweet, and poignant and just wow. Love it.
