I think a lot of old school fans (most Ducks are old school as far as I can tell) wrote off that entire scene from the finale with B/A as Really Bad Writing

That was certainly my first, bemused reaction.

BtVS S1 Angel, and no one missed that cardboard cut out of a vampire, lemme tell you.

I am strangely pleased to hear this. I confess that many of my issues about Angel evaporated (or, at least, lessened) when I realised that AtS Angel was not the same person, just as AtS Wes is not BtVS's Wesley.

This confuses me also.
