You know, I don't know that I'd call the B/A review this person wrote "sad". I think I'd use the word "biased." Spuffy fans? Not so much the ones I want telling me how to view a conversation between Buffy and Angel. Especially since this essay also talks about how much Spike has loved Buffy since "Crush" ("however unwisely"). Stalking is- unwise. Am I a B/A 4eva fan? Nah. But at least I admit my biases up front. The essay oughta come with a disclaimer.

I think the forum where this post was originally made is generally pro-Spuffy, so no disclaimer was needed there as it was addressed to like-minded friends. The error's in how I rec'ed it without context, so my apologies. I share many of the same prejudices as the Tea at the Ford folk, so I didn't think to label it.

Actually if you know of a discussion of this scene or of B/A as it is now, I'd be very glad of the URL. Inevitably, with limited time, I always end up reading the same sites and so am not always exposed to other perspectives. Especially as this post made me entirely too depressed for Buffy's sake.

I just want her to be happy, dammit.

I read a post at that site about the Angel ep 'Deep Down' and it was stunning in its complexity and insight. I linked to it from my AtS site, in fact. But I never trolled through the entire site enough to know it was Spuff.

It's odd to me too, because it seems many of the people I know who are Spuffy fen don't LIKE Buffy the character. Whereas most Ducks seem to like Buffy, Angel, and the actors who play them. Not that I'm ascribing any level of sanity to any particular shipper contingent, mind you. Particularly with the end of Jossverse as we know it looming, there's been loonies crawling out of every hole in the wall of shipperdom. Just good to know that not all Spuffy fans dislike one half of the ship, and actually root for the main character on occasion as well.

Honestly, I think a lot of old school fans (most Ducks are old school as far as I can tell) wrote off that entire scene from the finale with B/A as Really Bad Writing. I mean, it's hard to get past the meta of it when Angel is so fucking OOC. The guy just lost his son and his best friend and he's damn near GLEEFUL when he hands over the amulet. And no, that wasn't Angelus. That was like, BtVS S1 Angel, and no one missed that cardboard cut out of a vampire, lemme tell you.

All that's to say, uh, no. I dunno where another analysis of that conversation may be. I do, though, suspect that the end of AtS will give us at least some insight into Buffy's feelings as they are right now, whether SMG appears onscreen or not. (I am unspoiled).

Just to be all nitpicky:

The Ford itself isn't really a "Spuffy site", but a few (not all, by any means) of the members are B/S shippers. Alira is probably the Spuffiest Spuffy who ever walked the earth--and, in general, the most vocally pro-Spike fan of all the members--so you should probably be aware of that when reading her posts. (Not that one doesn't immediately realize the fact, as you noticed.)

Just a minor correction, because it would irk me a great deal to see TATF labeled a Spuffy shipper site. I'm anal that way. ;)

It really doesn't make sense that a certain contingent of self-described Spike fans want to see him live happily (?) ever after with someone they hate so viscerally, does it? I never got that, myself.

Thanks for the clarification. I couldn't find anything saying one way or another (and why would I?) but many of the posts I've read there are pro-Spuffy, or at least, not anti-Spuffy. As I'm that way myself, I forgot that others would take issue with some of Alira's assumptions as Kita pointed out.

I am strangely pleased to hear this. I confess that many of my issues about Angel evaporated (or, at least, lessened) when I realised that AtS Angel was not the same person, just as AtS Wes is not BtVS's Wesley.
