Eldrad lives!
I just watched the 1976 Doctor Who story The Hand of Fear. Is anyone else convinced that this is the source of Illyria?

Faithful companion Sarah-Jane Smith is possessed by an alien entity.
The alien entity is an extremely powerful being who has lain dormant underground for millions of years.
The alien regenerates, taking a form modelled on Sarah-Jane, but blue.
Its true form does not resemble Sarah-Jane.
The alien returns to its home planet, seeking to restore its former glories.
But the world is lifeless and its army is dust.
Sarah-Jane leaves the series, planning to return to South Croydon.

Faithful team member Fred Burkle is possessed by a demonic entity.
The demonic entity is an extremely powerful being who has lain dormant underground for millions of years.
The demon regenerates, taking a form modelled on Fred Burkle, but blue.
Its true form does not resemble Fred.
The demon returns to its home dimension, seeking to restore its former glories.
But the dimension is lifeless and its army is dust.
Fred Burkle leaves the series, as she's dead. Mostly, anyway.
ETA: I've just googled ' "Hand of Fear" and Illyria ' and got nuthin'. Come on, this is obvious! And surely there's enough crossover between Angel and Dr Who fandom. "The Hand of Fear" is not an obscure serial. It's on DVD.
