New fic: Blue

Blue
Afterwards, Illyria.
Post Not Fade Away. PG. 400 words.

For Writercon, Marieki asked me for a piece possibly including Illyria and Spike. [livejournal.com profile] peasant_ gave a few comments on the draft. Yoko Kanno wrote the piece of music which inspired this. My thanks to all.

I'm not going to do NaNoWriMo because it would lead to spontaneous human combustion. But I am considering publishing my first (and likely to be only) WIP as I have extensive notes for the Season Seven Giles fic and need to get a move on. Giles is much easier to write than Illyria. The Burkle piece is still in limbo while I try to find the right tone.

Can't send mail feeback from work, so just wanted to let you know what a lovely piece that was. I loved the way she moved from land to sea and from dark to light. I imagined her swimming away and never being seen again.

I must agree with the first comment, as I seem to be lacking original insight at the moment, but also because, yes. You painted such a vivid little snapshot here that held beginning, middle, and resolution in its colours and its images with ease. Very skillfully written.

That really was beautifully evocative.

Lovely. I especially liked the ending:
A hundred metres south was the Santa Monica pier. Illyria remembered when Fred had stood there, not long after the start of graduate school. She had looked out over the water, thinking that perhaps California was not so very different from home after all, feeling ready to take on the world.

Out on the ocean, the first glimmerings of light appeared on the waves. As the sun rose slowly behind her, Illyria watched as the sea and sky turned an ever clearer shade of blue.

Gave me hope for Blue....
