I see that one of the freeways (10) turns north at the Santa Monica pier and becomes California Highway 1. This may sound like a dumb question, but can pedestrians cross it? I recall that many large roads in Texas were impassable to pedestrians because of concrete sidewalls. Or are those all freeways? See how my complete lack of driving knowledge fails me now.

I recently read that, according to a scientific study, newlyweds have a better chance of long-term bliss if they feel able to tell each other when one of them is being irritating.

I conclude from this that many of my favourite pairings are now scientifically proven. Giles/Anya could have worked, dammit!

California Highway 1 is, IIRC, the Pacific Coast Highway. It is 2-lane divided for most of the way, I believe. Since the Santa Monica Pier is a big tourist thing, I have no doubt that you can walk across the highway to get there, and that there are lights to ensure it. It's been a decade since I've been in Cali and longer than that since I've been in that part, so mileage may vary.
