Advance warning and plea for advice

How many people -- Friends and lurkers -- read this LJ for my "real-life" stuff as well as my BtVS stuff? Because I think I'm going to have to move the RL stuff elsewhere. I have two LJs, one Buffyverse and one not, that I'm currently unable to manage concurrently. I'd like to go back to my original plan, which was to keep indri for BtVS stuff only, but I don't want to lose the friends I've made here.

How would people cope with me developing such a split personality? My current plan is to post a friends-locked pointer to the other journal for those who are interested. Those who aren't can keep reading this one for moans about my fic-writing and occasional comments on episodes as I rewatch them. The other LJ would have my more personal posts and would also be home to my sf fan friends and "RL" friends with LJs.

Or am I looking at this the wrong way and maybe there's another way to do this?

Well, I am interested in all aspects of your life and also have an interest in sf stuff too. If you feel you have to split your jounal, I'd like to see both sides.

I've been straining my brain to work out whether I could use filters, but I don't think so. I don't want to filter fic-related posts here, as indri is the only name I'm known by in BtVS fandom. But nor do I wish to foreground my fic writing to people who aren't interested in Buffy. I don't think I can filter for "everyone including lurkers except these friends...".

It's a variation of what I told lovesbitca. I love her fic. It's good stuff. But if she never wrote fiction again, I'd still read her journal because she writes interestingly about her life.

And, really, it's been so long since I dropped fiction of significant size, and I'm still gaining friends. I don't get it, but it's real. You can double-up if you want, but I don't think it's necessary.

My concern though is not that I'm gaining friends here but that I'm neglecting the friends on my other LJ. I'd invite them over here but few are interested in Buffy, or I'd never have started this journal. And I'd feel a little queasy about some of them reading my fic.

Well, given that I hardly ever post fannish stuff myself, I've found that my interest in LJ friends really extends beyond the limits of the Buffyverse. I'd love to know more about you, personally, as I always enjoy your posts that talk about your studies and your life.

Thanks, that means a lot to me. I find it hard to tell if anyone reads or enjoys my LJ posts unless they attract comments; but I know that comments are a poor way of measuring interest, as I read many journals with delight but without responding.

Besides, as somebody who lived in Florida and Texas and ended up in New Hampshire, I like reading about the nonfannish experiences of somebody who lived in Florida and Texas and ended up in Australia.

In my case, the buffyverse is a subset of my universe. If you leave the buffyverse, you'd still be in my universe. It's safe to say that buffyverse people in my friends' list are there because I like what they have to say about the universe, and not just the buffyverse. Besides, I think that eight out of ten of our LJ exchanage is not about the buffyverse.

I'm not leaving the Buffyverse, I'm just trying to fold it back into the rest of my life more completely. If I hadn't picked a new pseudonym for my fic this wouldn't have been a problem at all.

You could just create filters for your current account, one for fan posts and one for personal posts. (Don't ask me how, but I know it's possible.)

I've looked into filters and they don't quite meet my needs. The central problem is that I have 60+ friends in two locations and I can almost never be bothered posting in simulcast. Either way, I have to invite one lot over to the other LJ. I seriously considered asking everyone over here, but I still feel a bit odd about former colleagues reading my fic.
