Tired tonight and apathetic. I watched the AtS finale on Friday night and then had a very busy weekend so I've had no time in which to recharge my batteries or get my head in order. I'm too lazy to give links, even.

One thing that's not helping is that I can't get "If I Ruled the World" out of my head. At one point I was so driven to distraction that I contemplated doing an incredibly sappy screencap review of the Jossverse to its lyrics as a way of banishment. Then sanity prevailed.

Where's a copy of "Walk Like an Egyptian" when you need one?

One comment on the finale though -- Lorne. Lorne. He came close to stealing the show for me. I just never expected that. How noir, how sad. His expression haunts me.

I have been ask to write about Spike and Illyria, which does have much appeal. I have an idea for it, but it would be a lengthy post-AtS-S5 fic, and on the bleak side. If I can come up with something shorter set in S5 or AU, then I might have a chance of posting the story before August. Then I'd write the Gilesfic and then I'd retire from the field. Yeah, right. I originally promised myself that Descent would be the last.

Maybe I should just go to bed and watch all the Illyria eps. That would even count as research.

I agree about Lorne. I just finished watching the finale about five minutes ago, and he just tore me up. Also, I wept buckets over Wesley, and thought how much more appropriate was the reaction of Spike, Angel and Wes to the news of his death, than the horrible mall-talk scene from Chosen.

I have some nitpicks, but generally I thought it was terrific. I watched 21 and then 22 immediately afterwards, and it worked very well indeed.

And Spike, Angel, Gunn and Illyria are not dead.

I didn't cry the first time (whereas I did during moments of Chosen). But the second time I started to sniffle as soon as Lorne began singing, as I now knew what he'd been asked to do. And then again during Spike's reading. The Connor scenes, Gunn's visit to Anne, and Illyria's death moved me, but not to tears.

Someone pointed out in her LJ that we already knew that Lorne survived, because of his narration of "Spin the Bottle".

Spike, Angel, Gunn and Illyria are not dead.

I am wondering now at what fanfic we'll see.

During the first twenty-four after I watched it, I was convinced that they'd all die; the following day I was equally certain that they'd survive. A military analyst at All Things Philosophical rated their chances quite highly. But mostly of course, it doesn't matter, they'll be fixed in that moment until if/when there's a movie or new series.

Did you ever watch Blake's Seven? It had a similar sort of ending, even harsher in some ways, but someone still managed to publish a believable post-series novel afterwards. Afterlife I think it was called. It was quite good.

I've finished Promethea Volume One. I clearly need vol 2 now. I liked the "classic model" Promethea in particular :)

I was going to say something about Promethea. Which is the 'classic' one? Would it be Grace Brannagh, in which case there's plenty more of her? I have the original comic book series (which is still ongoing) and am now on issue 18. There are 28 altogether so far.

Yup, Grace Brannagh describes herself as "rather the classic model". I'll look forward to more of her and see if I can get Volume 3 soon.

Actually, a newish comics shop has opened here (maybe while we were in Texas). The SO and I went there last Saturday. The proprietor must have looked at our purchases (Promethea Vol2 2 and Bone Vol 4) and decided that we were serious buyers who should be encouraged, so he gave us a big discount.

Well, he's encouraged me.

Frustratingly though, we ordered LoEG 2 from Amazon and it keeps on being delayed. Grr argh.

I am up to date with Promethea now (read the two most recent issues last night) and I have to say that it really takes a very dark turn in all the post 9/11 issues - which are not so many as you might think. There's some beautiful stuff too, though.

I've just read Issue 12. We seem to have finished the first story arc some issues earlier and now Promethea's learning about magic. She's just heard a surprisingly Western-centred history of the universe through Tarot Cards.

I was amused by the many-Promethea scene in issue 7 or 8, which made me think of "Chosen". And yes, the artwork's often lovely. The hyper-real shots with the William Woolcott Promethea were exceptionally fine.

I agree the artwork is exceptional. I found that tarot issue a little hard to get through, I have to admit. But it did look so beautiful after all.

Yes, I read all the other issues in the volume in one go but then faltered a bit at the tarot.

But now I'm all set for vol3.

I'd be interested to read that, could you give a link by any chance? (I mean I know where ATPOBTVS is, but I wouldn't know where to start looking for the post in question.)
