I, unfortunately, don't update my journal much either. I intended for it to be a recommendation log of sorts, but considering I've read almost nothing in the last few months it's kind of empty. Although I have read a few stories I mean to post about.
I like being able to browse my friends list to get an idea of what's up on a variety of topics. I like being a big geek and having the whedonesque and sciam feeds in my friends list as well. I do prefer a board format for real discussion, but this definitely has its place.
You'll find LJ a great alternative / addition to BetterBuffyFic for hearing about new and great fics. As well, I just took a peak at your new recs page, and can answer a few questions. Wisteria's site is down temporarily; she had missed her payment date and hasn't quite reorganized. Psyche's site is down, with non-responsive technical problems.
