Bushwalk in Morialta

Morialta Park lies on the edge of Adelaide, close enough that you can catch an ordinary suburban bus to the entrance. These buses pass by my friend Tassie's house, so Housemate-The-Pianist and I walked to her place this morning for breakfast before heading off on our bushwalk.

It was a fabulous day for it, warm, but not so hot as to be unpleasant. Couldn't have wished for clearer skies. See how dry everything looks? It's the end of summer and bushfire season. A couple of weeks ago, someone drove a 4WD over some dry grasses and accidentally set them alight, damaging a power station and leading to blackouts for three hundred thousand people, including me.

We went on the Three Falls walk, but at this time of year all the waterfalls are dry.

By the time I got up this high, I realised just how appalling my cardiovascular fitness is. But it's a pretty view and there were many more of those.

Most of the trees are gums, of course,

but there were also quite a few yucca.

Ah, Adelaide: hills, city and sea.

Nice pictures of shrubbery...but I really only stopped by to tell you I've just picked up and finished reading 'Descent' this morning, and I enjoyed every last word of it. I stand in awe of how you could have made such a coherent narrative out of so few clues and Spike's unraveling.

Actually, it was fun to write

And it shows -- makes it fun to read, too. It flows so naturally, and even if I've never been to equatorial Africa, I could almost smell and feel it all the way through your story

This looks absolutely beautiful. And like great running territory.
