Well, I've finished a draft of the shorter Illyria fic and I must say I hate every word. This isn't, however, an usual state of affairs when I'm writing, so I'll put it to one side until the weekend and then I'll look it over again to see if it's really as bad as I think. If it isn't, I'll send it to beta.

kita0610 recently posted that most people seem to like their most recent work best. I'm the opposite: there's almost always too large a gap between what I imagine the story should be and what I am able to achieve. But I grow fonder of most pieces over time.

I'll bring the washing in now and decide whether to work on the longer Illyria fic or the Giles fic or if I should do something entirely different instead.

Well, I think you have that the best way round. It's surely better to re-read stuff you've previously written and find that it's better than you remembered than it is to read something you were previously pleased with and decide that it's crap.

I'm more the opposite.

I'm with you on the what I *want* to achieve and what I actually end up with. *sigh*

And sometimes I think if I put all the best bits of everything I ever wrote together, I'd have a masterpiece. LOL
