Sick. Not bored.
Apr. 16th, 2004 09:46 pmSorry about the earlier grumpiness -- I'm feeling much better now. I've had something to eat and a cup of tea and half a lamington. And Housemate-the-Viola-Player went far beyond kindness by offering me use of their bathtub (our ensuite only has a shower). So now I'm squeaky clean and well-rested and ready to take on the world -- provided I don't have to move too far from my bed to do it.

Date: 2004-04-16 06:30 am (UTC)She does. Both of the housemates are professional musicians. The Viola Player teaches at a school, helps run a youth orchestra and performs in occasional concerts. The Pianist works as an accompanist and as a repetiteur although he's also had some high-profile concerts in the past year too.
While I was in the bath they were playing music together in the next room. I have no idea what piece, but that no doubt helped to improve my mood.
(We know the Pianist from his previous life as a mathematician. He won a scholarship to Oxbridge but found he enjoyed the Gilbert and Sullivan Society more than his thesis, so he decided to come back to Australia and pursue music full-time. It's a decision I admire him for: he could have had a stellar and safe academic career but chose a much more precarious life that he finds more fulfilling. We met the Viola Player when they started dating; I think she decided to be a musician early on.)
Have you played any musical instruments yourself? I used to play the flute but I'm nervous of getting it out now that I share a house with proper musicians.

I used to play the piano, but so badly that I ended up hating listening to myself and stopped. I do love classical music, though, but chamber pieces rather than full orchestral works.
